Gelbvieh Search Instructions

  • Choose either an Animal Search or a Trait Search but not both.  If you enter registration number(s), prefix/tattoo or name criteria any additional criteria you enter below will be ignored.
  • In a trait search, you may specify a minimum, maximum or both (range) for any trait. The input form also shows the numeric range of each trait from the actual data. If you are entering a negative number, precede it with a minus (hyphen) character; DO NOT use a plus sign in front of positive numbers.
  • If a cell is left empty, the program will assume there is no limit (i.e. the highest or lowest of that trait). If accuracy is left blank, all accuracies will be included.
  • You can also specify the sort order of the returned data; first specify either ascending or descending order.
  • After you see a results page, you can return to the entry form (with your browser's BACK button) and change any criteria as well as the sort order and then resubmit the search. At the bottom of each page, you will have the option to start a new search, see the next or previous page of animals (if there are any) or you can return to the Sire Search Page.
  • When searching by name, do not include the animal's prefix.
  • When searching by name, unless you know exactly how the name is entered, search for a smaller part of the name that most likely does not have any spaces.
  • Please be aware that the more animals your search finds, the longer it takes to return the information. If the time seems excessive, press BACK or STOP before it finishes and change the criteria to narrow your search. Also, there is an inherent Internet limit on the amount of data that can be returned.
  • Sire names are a link to more information including owner names and a three-generation pedigree. Simply click on the sire's name and a single page of information will be generated on that sire.
  • If you wish to specify multiple registration numbers or prefix/tattoos, follow the link at the top of the main entry form to get a secondary form that allows you to enter up to 21 numbers.
  • Due to more data per animal, you can select how many animals are returned on a page. Maximums are included in order to maintain processing efficiency and nine (9) seems to be a good number for most browsers.
