Champions Named at American Royal Gelbvieh and Balancer® Junior Heifer Show

The Junior Gelbvieh and Balancer® Heifer Show at the American Royal was held on Saturday, October 20, 2018, in Kansas City, Missouri. Judge Randy Daniel, Colbert, Georgia, evaluated the Gelbvieh and Balancer heifers.

Grand champion heifer was CBLG Six E Firefly 700E, owned by Abigail Schrader, Columbia City, Indiana. This heifer is the daughter of PZCT PZC Tmas Firestorm 1800 ET and first claimed the Gelbvieh and Balancer junior yearling heifer division.

The reserve grand champion heifer is owned by Sarah Carroll of Raymore, Missouri. JNCC Miss Dimension 802F is the daughter of JNCC BROK Final Dimension 601D and first claimed the Gelbvieh and Balancer junior heifer calf division.

Champions Named at Gelbvieh and Balancer® Junior National Show

The American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) Corn Fed Classic Junior National Gelbvieh and Balancer® show took pace on Thursday, July 5, and Friday, July 6, 2018, in Waterloo, Iowa. Brent Vieselmeyer, Amherst, Colorado, evaluated the 171 Balancer cattle, and Brad Bennett of Seward, Nebraska, evaluated the 88 Gelbvieh cattle and 20 steers.

The grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh bull was LGNZ Mayweather 48E ET owned by Logan Zemlicka, Wolsey, South Dakota. This bull born March 28, 2017, is the son of GGGE 3G Zip Line 266Z and first claimed the spring yearling bull division.

Colton Ivers, Austin, Minnesota, owned the reserve grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh bull, IFG Ivers Hannibal F14. This JRI General Patton 213B97 ET son was born February 6, 2018, and first claimed the junior bull calf division.

The supreme grand champion Gelbvieh female was HIGH Ms Emma 9E100 ET, owned by Jacie Carroll, Raymore, Missouri. She is a September 13, 2017, born daughter of JRI Pop A Top 197T83 and first claimed grand champion Gelbvieh heifer and the senior heifer calf division.

BEA 7102E ET, owned by Casey Martin, Oregon, Illinois, claimed reserve grand champion Gelbvieh heifer. She is the March 18, 2017, daughter of BEA 301A and was out of the spring yearling heifer division.

Casey Martin also owned the grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh heifer. SKYC BCFG-SKYS Eleanor 282E is the January 23, 2017 daughter of JRI Pistol Pete 214A44 and was out of the spring yearling division.

AMT 98E was named the reserve champion bred and owned Gelbvieh heifer. Owned by Austin Teeter, Mount Ulla, North Carolina, and out of the senior heifer calf division, this September 1, 2017, heifer is a daughter of GHGF Shear Force 81A.

The grand champion Gelbvieh cow-calf pair and grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh cow-calf pair was owned by Alyssa Beenken, Buckingham, Iowa. BFA Daphne 1D3 is a March 11, 2016, CCRO Carolina Exclusive 1230Y daughter.

Luke Rash, Macon, Missouri, owned the reserve grand champion Gelbvieh cow-calf pair. HIGH Michala 31D31 is sired by BCFG Butlers Hillbilly Hero 71 and was born March 5, 2016.

SKYC SKYS Encore 7086E, owned by Casey Martin, Oregon, Illinois, claimed grand champion bred and owned Balancer bull. He is the March 19, 2017, son of SKYM Foreman 2002Z and first claimed the spring yearling bull division.

The reserve champion bred and owned Balancer bull was LARA Grand Slam N020E ET, owned by Lara Rittenhouse, New Carlisle, Ohio. This September 18, 2017, son of S A V Brilliance 8077 came out of the senior bull calf division.

BCFG Butlers Ms Daisy 28D3 ET, owned by Aidan Raab, Markle, Indiana, claimed supreme grand champion Balancer female and grand champion Balancer heifer. This female is out of the senior female division and she is the September 26, 2016, daughter of AHL Flashback 446B.

Kyle Vehige, Billings, Missouri, owned the reserve grand champion Balancer heifer. KDV T Bar S Dutchess 121D is the November 21, 2016, daughter of Stevenson Weigh Up 41163 and came out of the senior female division. This female also claimed grand champion bred and owned Balancer heifer.

The reserve grand champion bred and owned Balancer heifer came out of the junior heifer calf division. GDV T Bar S Ciara 503F is a January 3, 2018, female is owned by Grace Vehige, Billings, Missouri, and is sired by R4RA Conquest 254.

The grand champion Balancer cow-calf pair was BDCL 14D2, owned by Alex Barwick, Orleans, Nebraska. This January 7, 2016, female is the daughter of VRT Lazy TV Watchman W021.

Sarah Carroll, Raymore, Missouri, owned the reserve grand champion Balancer cow-calf pair. GGGE 3G Cowgirl Dixie 6102D is the May 6, 2016, daughter of S S Hoover Dam B115.

BRAX Delilah D26 was named the grand champion bred and owned Balancer cow-calf pair. She is the February 12, 2016, daughter of BAG Mr. Quick Sand 135A owned by Braxton Murray, Kingfisher, Oklahoma.

The reserve grand champion bred and owned Balancer cow-calf pair was BROK Maleficent 401B, owned by Brooke Nowack, Bland, Missouri. She is the January 1, 2014, daughter of Connealy Final Product 7212.

The grand champion steer was BTO owned by Chisum Grund, Wallace, Kansas and weighed 1,265 pounds.

Reserve grand champion steer was Mr Outright 59E, was owned by Kale Taubenheim, Amherst, Nebraska and weighed 1,375 pounds.

Champions Named at Gelbvieh and Balancer Junior National Show

The American Gelbvieh Junior Association Big Red Classic Junior National Gelbvieh and Balancer® show took place on Thursday, June 29 and Friday, June 30, 2017, in Grand Island, Nebraska. Alan Miller, along with associate judge Will Coor, both of Gridley, Ilinois, evaluated 135 Balancer cattle, and Jason Elmore of Waukomis, Oklahoma, evaluated 101 Gelbvieh cattle.

The grand champion Gelbvieh bull was GDV T Bar S Ace’s High 209D, owned by Grace Vehige, Bonnots Mill, Missouri. This December 22, 2016, bull calf is a son of DMF Mississippi Red 1918J, and first claimed the senior bull calf division.

Hunter Sheeley, Hillsboro, Ohio, owned the reserve grand champion Gelbvieh bull, OHMV Double Time D411. This GGGE 3G Time Machine 758T ET son was born March 9, 2016, and came out of the spring yearling division.

The supreme grand champion Gelbvieh female was BCFG-SKYS Kali 282C, owned by Casey Martin, Oregon, Illinois. This September 17, 2015, daughter of BCFG Butlers Red Oak 908W first claimed grand champion Gelbvieh heifer and the senior female division.

Jaycie Forbes, DeSmet, South Dakota, owned the reserve grand champion Gelbvieh heifer. VLK D649 Harper ET is the March 21, 2016, daughter of VLK A301 Highmore and was out of the spring yearling division.

Grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh heifer was POST Post Rock Twila 334D8 ET, owned by Meredith Clark, Barnard, Kansas. This October 7, 2016, heifer was sired by DCSF Post Rock Power Built 37B8. This heifer came out of the senior heifer calf division.

HTFK Ms Dolly D6 was named the reserve champion bred and owned Gelbvieh heifer. Owned by Kyler Camerer, Asbury, Missouri, and out of the senior heifer calf division, this September 8, 2016, heifer is a daughter of BABR Influencial 4241B ET.

The grand champion Gelbvieh cow-calf pair was owned by Emily Cameron, Danville, Iowa. BNC Miss Hojer C524 is a January 1, 2015, JDPD Astro 407S daughter. This pair first claimed the young cow-calf pair division.

Brylee Thiel, Kaw City, Oklahoma, owned the reserve grand champion Gelbvieh cow-calf pair. MDR Clara Allen 520C is out of the young cow-calf division, sired by JRI Next Step 285X72 and was born March 15, 2015.

Logan Zemlicka, Wolsey, South Dakota, swept the Balancer bull show owning the grand champion Balancer bull and reserve grand champion Balancer bull. The grand champion Balancer bull, LGNZ Alpha 111D ET is the March 10, 2016, son of PVF Insight 0129 and first claimed the spring yearling bull division.

The reserve champion Balancer bull was LGNZ Bravo 734D ET. This March 16, 2016, son of PVF Insight 0129 came out of the spring yearling bull division.

EGL Vivian C1083, owned by J W LeDoux, Ree Heights, South Dakota, claimed supreme grand champion Balancer female and grand champion Balancer cow-calf pair. This female first claimed the young cow-calf division. She is the March 25, 2015, daughter of Eagle Pass Final Answer 1047.

The grand champion Balancer heifer was VLK D609 Ellie, owned by Kyla Struck, Hartford, South Dakota. This heifer was first named champion spring yearling heifer and is the March 3, 2016, daughter of VLK A301 Highmore.

Jady LeDoux, Ree Heights, South Dakota, owned the reserve grand champion Balancer heifer. EGL Tessa C1510 is the August 10, 2015, daughter of EGL Lock and Load X415 and came out of the senior female division.

KDV T Bar S Jasmine 125E was named grand champion bred and owned Balancer heifer, owned by Kyle Vehige, Bonnots Mill, Missouri. She is the January 12, 2017, daughter of LONK Friar 544R, and came out of the junior heifer calf division.

The reserve grand champion bred and owned Balancer heifer came out of the winter yearling division. This February 12, 2016, female is owned by Braxton Murray, Kingfisher, Oklahoma, is sired by BAG Mr Quick Sand 135A.

The reserve grand champion Balancer cow-calf pair was RAAB BCFG Ms. Star 13C, owned by Karen Eby, Duncan, South Carolina. This January 3, 2015, daughter of S A V Brilliance 8077 came out of the young cow-calf division.

Brooke Nowack, Bland, Missouri, owned the grand champion bred and owned Balancer cow-calf pair. BROK Maleficent 401B is the January 1, 2014, daughter of Connealy Final Product.

VLK Rudy D685 was named grand champion steer. This 1,178 pound steer owned by Baxter Lowe, Adrian, Missouri, came out of class 1.

Reserve grand champion steer was AHL Bubby 017D, owned by J W LeDoux, Ree Heights, South Dakota. This 1,412 pound steer came out of class 3.

Champions Named at NWSS Gelbvieh Junior Heifer Show

The Junior Gelbvieh and Balancer® Heifer Show at the National Western Stock Show was held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 in Denver, Colorado. Judge John Grimes, Piketon, Ohio, evaluated the 27 Gelbvieh and 33 Balancer females.
Grand champion Gelbvieh heifer was BCFG Butlers Bianca 534B owned by Aidan Raab, Markle, Indiana. This heifer first claimed the Gelbvieh junior yearling heifer division and is the April 1, 2014 daughter of BCFG Butlers Impact 549U.
Coming out of the same Gelbvieh junior yearling heifer division was the reserve grand champion Gelbvieh Heifer. EGL B281, owned by J W LeDoux, Agenda, Kansas, was born April 17, 2015 and is sired by EGL Lock and Load X415.
Grand champion Balancer heifer was RAAB BCFG Ms. Valentine 214B. This heifer is owned by Aidan Raab, Markle, Indiana and first claimed the Balancer junior yearling heifer division. She is the February 14, 2014 daughter of S A V Brilliance 8077.
Reserve grand champion Balancer heifer was TAU Ms Fancy 414B ET, owned by Tanner Taubenheim, Amherst, Nebraska. This heifer also came out of the Balancer junior yearling heifer division and is the January 22, 2014 daughter of Connealy Consensus 7229.

The Junior Gelbvieh and Balancer® Female Show at the National Western Stock Show was held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 in Denver, Colorado. Judge Dan Hoge, Galva, Illinois evaluated the 21 Gelbvieh and 36 Balancer females.

Sydney Taubenheim, Amherst, Nebraska, exhibited the grand champion Gelbvieh female. TAU Mia 363A is a February 3, 2013 daughter of TAU Gunnison 106R.

Brylee Thiel, Kaw City, Oklahoma, exhibited the reserve champion Gelbvieh female. STON Miss Jest 13A is a January 23, 2013 daughter of JRI Star Bucks 254Y82.

The grand champion Balancer female was exhibited by Aidan Raab, Markle, Indiana. RAAB BCFG Ms.Valentine 214B is a February 14, 2014 daughter of SAV Brilliance 8077.

Gelbvieh Juniors Gather at the Barnyard Classic National Show

The 34th annual American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) classic was held in Sioux Falls, S.D., June 29 through July 4, 2014. The 2014 Barnyard Classic saw 157 AGJA members from 16 states that met and exhibited 251 head of Gelbvieh and Balancer® cattle. 

The event was hosted by the South Dakota Gelbvieh Junior Association and the week was filled with several leadership and skills contests and concluded with two days of cattle shows. 

The national junior Balancer female show was held on Thursday, July 3. Judge Brad Gohr of Madras, Ore., evaluated 114 Balancer heifers and five Balancer cow-calf pairs. Mr. Gohr also judged the showmanship contest earlier in the day. The following day Lydell Meier of Clinton, Tenn. evaluated 98 Gelbvieh heifers, four Gelbvieh cow-calf pairs, nine Gelbvieh bulls, ten Balancer bulls, and 11 market steers. 

The supreme champion Gelbvieh female was exhibited by Michael Ring, Oregon, Ill.  BCFG QVS Butlers Kali 282Z ET is a September 12, 2012 daughter of SLC Freedom 178F ET. The heifer was first named champion senior female and grand champion Gelbvieh heifer. 

The supreme champion Balancer female was exhibited by Lane Enyart, Afton, Okla.  WORR Red Jessica 201A is a January 24, 2013 daughter of JDPD Akin 140W. She was also named grand champion Balancer heifer and champion winter yearling heifer.

Gelbvieh show results

In the Gelbvieh female show, the reserve grand champion Gelbvieh heifer was BCFG QVS Butlers Kali 281Z ET exhibited by Justin Teeter, Mt. Ulla, N.C. This heifer was born on September 11, 2012, and was sired by SLC Freedom 178F ET. She stood second in class and division to the supreme champion Gelbvieh female.

The grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh heifer was TTTT Little Hottie exhibited by Chase Tabor, Stillwater, Okla. This heifer is a March 27, 2013 daughter of TTTT Hott Papa ET, and came out of the summer yearling division.  

Connor Durham, Piedmont, S.C., exhibited the reserve champion bred and owned Gelbvieh heifer. HSCF 268A Miss August is a November 4, 2013 daughter of JRI Pop A Top 197T83. This heifer first claimed senior heifer calf division champion.   

The grand champion Gelbvieh cow-calf was MYFM Saphire exhibited by Brynn Meyers, Oak Ridge, Mo. The cow was born on December 15, 2011 and was sired by HYEK Black Impact 3960N.   

Reserve grand champion Gelbvieh cow-calf was exhibited by Samantha Ivers, Austin, Minn. IFG Ivers Sophia is a February 23, 2012 daughter of JRI Secret Weapon 164T5. 

Tricia Goes, Odell, Neb., exhibited the grand champion in the bred and owned Gelbvieh bull show. PMG 06 A is a March 14, 2013 son of CRAN Final Answer W24 ET. 

Reserve champion in the bred and owned Gelbvieh bull show went to CRMG X Factor exhibited by Carter Mitchell, Appleton City, Mo. The bull is a March 24, 2014 son of JDPD Rolex 151M.  

Balancer show results

The reserve grand champion Balancer heifer was GHGF Ashley 31A, exhibited by Ryan Menius, Mt. Ulla, N.C. This heifer is an April 1, 2013 daughter of FMGF Blue’s Impact 001X and was first named champion spring yearling heifer.

The grand champion bred and owned Balancer heifer was exhibited by Michael Ring, Oregon, Ill. SKYM Lady A 3075A ET is a March 14, 2013 daughter of TAU Gunslinger 19U. This heifer was first named spring yearling heifer division reserve champion and bred and owned division champion.

HSCF Twisters Southern Bell was named reserve grand champion bred and owned Balancer heifer and was exhibited by Connor Durham of Piedmont, S.C. She is a February 24, 2013 daughter of TAU Mr Krugerrand 70M 130P and was first named winter yearling bred and owned division champion. 

In the Balancer cow-calf show, grand champion went to Jacob Barwick, Orleans, Neb., with PMG Yolanda 57Y. The cow was born on May 16, 2011 and was sired by JHG Premonition 662S ET. 

The reserve champion Balancer cow-calf was TAU Miss Gridiron 131Y, exhibited by Sydney Taubenheim, Amherst, Neb. The cow was born on February 15, 2011, and was sired by TC Gridiron 782.

Tricia Goes, Odell, Neb., exhibited the grand champion in the bred and owned Balancer bull show. PMG Aladdin 11A ET was born on May 9, 2013 and was sired by TAU Gunslinger 19U. 

The reserve champion bred and owned Balancer bull was SKSK Jukebox 4A exhibited by Kaeden Schlake, Cortland, Neb. He is an April 8, 2013 son of SKSG the Jazz X1. 

Market steer show results

Finally, the grand champion market steer was exhibited by Justin Ringkob, Lake City, S.D. His steer weighed 1,133 pounds.

The reserve grand champion went to Cater Mitchell, Appleton City, Mo., with a steer weighing 1,230 pounds.

Members of the AGJA competed in the always-competitive showmanship contest. The winner of this year’s premier breeder award went to Connor Durham, Piedmont, S.C. Past AGJA member and current Gelbvieh breeder Emily Griffiths of Kendallville, Ind., sponsors the award. The award honors an AGJA’s member’s achievements and goals within their own herd.

Junior members earn points all throughout the week through participating in the more than 20 contests. The points are then totaled and the top ten individuals are recognized in the all-around competition. Gelbvieh Juniors Show “Under the Western Skies”

The American Gelbvieh Junior Association held their Western Regional show June 13-15, 2014. The show was held in Concordia, Kan., and was aptly named “Under the Western Skies.” A total of 41 junior members of Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma exhibited 74 Gelbvieh and Balancer® animals. Chris Mullinix from Manhattan, Kan., evaluated the 25 Gelbvieh females, three Gelbvieh bulls, 37 Balancer females, four Balancer bulls and five steers.

Jordan Gatz, Robinson, Kan., showed the grand champion Gelbvieh female. JRI Ms Butterscotch 176Z41 is an August 8, 2012 daughter of JRI Pop A Top 197T83, and first claimed the senior female division.

Jessie Lowe, Adrian, Mo., showed the reserve champion Gelbvieh female. Also from the senior female division, HIGH Ms Sweetheart 8Z60 is a September 23, 2012 heifer and was sired by TAU Mr Krugerrand 70M 130P.

The grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh female was exhibited by Chase Tabor, Stillwater, Okla. TTTT Little Hottie is a March 27, 2013 heifer sired by TTTT Hott Papa ET.

Gelbvieh Juniors Show in Eastern Regional

The American Gelbvieh Junior Association held their Eastern Regional show May 23-25, 2014 in Bardstown, Ky. The show featured 37 Gelbvieh and Balancer® bulls and females exhibited by 20 junior members from Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina and South Carolina. John Chism from Winchester, Ky., evaluated the 19 Gelbvieh females, three Gelbvieh bulls, 14 Balancer females and one Balancer bull.

Robert Reynolds of Crab Orchard, Ky., exhibited the grand champion Gelbvieh female and the grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh female. RRYN Bee Licks Ms Allison is a November 27, 2012 female sired by RTRT Solution. She first claimed the Gelbvieh senior female division.

Justin Teeter, Mt. Ulla, N.C., showed the reserve champion Gelbvieh female. BCFG QVS Butlers Kali 281Z ET is a September 11, 2012 heifer sired by SLC Freedom 178F ET. This heifer was also from the senior female division and was first name reserve in the division.

Tyler Bitzer, Shelbyville, Ky., exhibited the reserve champion bred and owned Gelbvieh bull. CTTK Scooby Doo is an October 25, 2013 son of KBIT Bon Jovi.

In the Balancer show, the grand champion Balancer female was GHGF Ashley 31A , exhibited by Ryan Menius, Mt. Ulla, N.C. She is an April 1, 2013 heifer sired by FMGF Blue's Impact 001X, and was first named champion spring yearling heifer.

Anna Ring, Oregon, Ill., exhibited the reserve champion Balancer female. SKYS Eleanor 3008A is a January 5, 2013 heifer sired by Kesslers Frontman R001. She first claimed the winter yearling heifer division.

The grand champion bred and owned Balancer female was exhibited by Cody Moore, Fountain Run, Ky. HILC Ms Lady Bug is a March 14, 2013 daughter of RID R Collateral 2R. This heifer was first named spring yearling heifer champion bred and owned.

The reserve champion bred and owned Balancer female was SKYM Lady A 3075A exhibited by Michael Ring, Oregon, Ill. She is a March 14, 2013 daughter of TAU Gunslinger 19U, who also came out of the spring yearling heifer division.

The lone entry in the bred and owned Balancer bull show was DPFG BAR GP La 519A. Grant Powell, Palmyra, Mo., exhibited this champion bull who is a February 7, 2013 son of PALS A & S King Rob SJ8.

Gelbvieh Juniors Experience the Northern Lights in National Show

Members of the American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) met in Rochester, Minn., for their annual junior national show held June 30 through July 5. Named each year after the host state, the 2013 AGJA Northern Lights Classic saw 253 Gelbvieh and Balancer® animals exhibited by more than 150 junior members from 16 states.

The Minnesota Gelbvieh Junior Association hosted the week-long event which was filled with more than 20 leadership and skills contests and concluded with the cattle shows.

“This event is more than a cattle show. Throughout the week, AGJA members are challenged in various contests designed to build their skills as future beef industry leaders. Just as important, AGJA members have an opportunity to meet other members from across the country and build lasting friendships and networks," said Dana Stewart, AGJA staff advisor and American Gelbvieh Association director of member services.

The national junior Gelbvieh show was held on Friday, July 5. Judge Jim Williams of Boling, Texas evaluated the 100 Gelbvieh heifers, 7 cow-calf pairs, and 12 bred and owned bulls. Mr. Williams also judged the 9 market steers. The national junior Balancer show was held a day earlier on Thursday. Dan Hoge, Cambridge, Ill., judged the 102 Balancer heifers, 11 cow-calf pairs, and 12 bred and owned bulls. Mr. Hoge also judged the showmanship contest.

New for the 2013 show was the naming of a supreme champion female for both the Gelbvieh and the Balancer shows. Previously the heifers and cow-calf pairs competed together for grand champion female. This year the heifers and cow-calf pairs in each breed were separated into their own shows, with the champions of each brought back for selection of the supreme champion female.

The supreme champion Gelbvieh female was exhibited by Wyatt Taylor, Kiowa, Colo. JCGR BAR GT PrettyWoman 529 is an October 24, 2011 daughter of RID R Collateral 2R. She was first named grand champion Gelbvieh heifer as well as champion senior female.

The supreme champion Balancer female was exhibited by Garrett Teeter, Mt. Ulla, N.C. PLA Miss Zelda 20Z is a February 12, 2012 daughter of S A V Pioneer 7301. This heifer was first named grand champion Balancer heifer as well as champion winter yearling.

Gelbvieh Show Results

The reserve champion Gelbvieh female was LRSF Elise Y153 exhibited by David Larson, Clearbrook, Minn. His heifer is an August 25, 2011 daughter of JRI Prime Cut 406S30 and was first named reserve senior female.

The grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh heifer was exhibited by Connor Durham, Piedmont, S.C. HSCF Gee Gee 218Z is a September 4, 2012 daughter of JHG Premonition 662S ET. She first claimed the senior heifer calf division.

Chase Tabor, Columbus, Kan., had the reserve champion bred and owned Gelbvieh heifer, TTTT Damn Special ET. This February 12, 2012 heifer is sired by JRI Enhancer 53U21 and came out of the winter yearling division.

In the Gelbvieh cow-calf show, grand champion went to Connor Durham with LRSF Rylee Y99. The cow was born March 30, 2011 and was sired by JRI Prime Cut 406S30.

The reserve champion Gelbvieh cow-calf and champion bred and owned was TTTT Red Dawn exhibited by Chase Tabor. This February 21, 2011 cow was sired by JRI Extra Exposure 285L71 ET.

Kale Kendrick, Palmyra, Mo., showed the reserve champion bred and owned Gelbvieh cow-calf. KKKC Better Yet is an October 21, 2010 cow sired by KAKC JPTK Hot Source.

In the bred and owned Gelbvieh bull show, the grand champion went to SYDB Garbanzo Bean exhibited by Sydney Bigger, Media, Ill. He is a March 2, 2012 son of SYDB Butter Bean.

The reserve bred and owned Gelbvieh bull was exhibited by Cade Cameron, Danville, Iowa. PGGC Ameis 23A is a February 3, 2013 son of CIRS Decade 278U2.

Balancer Show Results

Moving on to the Balancer show results, the reserve champion Balancer heifer was exhibited by Grace Hammer, Wallace, Kan. ELC Miss Bella is a February 23, 2012 daughter of SIXM Red Six Mile Sakic 832S. She also came out of the winter yearling heifer division.

The champion bred and owned Balancer heifer was shown by Chandler Ladner, Argonia, Kan. From the senior female division, LCC Lady Di is a September 26, 2011 daughter of HFGC HF Roscoe 34P59 ET.

Van Tucker, Portis, Kan., exhibited the reserve champion bred and owned Balancer heifer. VTT Twisted Sister is a March 6, 2012 daughter of TBP Ravishing Rob 113 and was first named champion bred and owned spring yearling.

The grand champion Balancer cow-calf was shown by David Larson. His cow, SVVG Rylee, is a February 5, 2008 daughter of TC Rito 416.

The reserve champion Balancer cow-calf was JCGR BAR GT Lee Ann 519U ET, shown by Grant Powell, Palmyra, Mo. The cow is an August 7, 2008 daughter of RID R Collateral 2R. 

In the bred and owned Balancer bull show, champion went to PMG Zephyr 03Z exhibited by Tricia Goes, Odell, Neb. This March 25, 2012 bull was sired by CRAN Final Answer W24 ET.

The reserve bred and owned Balancer bull was exhibited by Cameron Schwark, Herscher, Ill. CSCF Classic Alydar Legend is a June 11, 2012 son of BC Classic 385-7.

Market Steer Show Results

Finally, the grand champion market steer was exhibited by Tanner Taubenheim, Amherst, Neb. His steer weighed 1,365 pounds.

The reserve champion market steer went to John Shearer, Canton, Kan., with a steer weighing 1,155 pounds.

Contest Result Highlights

The showmanship contest is one of the most competitive competitions that AGJA members participate in during the Junior Classic. The showmanship results are as follows: Karsyn Youngblood, Columbus, Kan., junior champion; Willow Weber, Swisher, Iowa, junior reserve; Connor Durham, Piedmont, S.C., intermediate champion; Haley Ringkob, Lake City, S.D., intermediate reserve; Grace Hammer, Wallace, Kan., senior champion; and Justin Teeter, Mt. Ulla., N.C., senior reserve. The showmanship contest is sponsored by Sullivan Supply, Dunlap, Iowa.

This year marked the addition of a new premier breeder award to honor an AGJA member's achievements and goals within their own herd. The award consists of an application, interview, and achievements in the show held during the Junior Classic. The recipient was selected based on a total score of the three categories. A past AGJA member and current Gelbvieh breeder, Emily Griffiths of Kendallville, Ind., sponsors the award. The inaugural premier breeder award was presented to Justin Taubenheim, Amherst, Neb.

Throughout the week of Junior Classic, junior members earn points for competing in the educational contests. The points are totaled and the top ten individuals are recognized in the all-around competition. The top ten all-around individuals are: Karsyn Youngblood, Columbus, Kan., champion; Justin Taubenheim, Amherst, Neb., second; Gabrielle Hammer, Wallace, Kan., third; Connor Durham, Piedmont, S.C., fourth; Madalynn Walsh, Franklin, Neb., fifth; Tanner Aherin, Phillipsburg, Kan., sixth; Grady Hammer, Wallace, Kan., seventh; Tyler Beenken, Buckingham, Iowa, eighth; Callahan Grund, Sharon Springs, Kan., ninth; and Caleb Scharpe, Arlington, Minn., tenth.

Members of the American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) participated in their second show of the summer at the AGJA Foothills of the Smokies Eastern Regional show. The show was held June 3-5 in Maryville, Tenn., and was hosted by the Heritage FFA Chapter of Heritage High School, Maryville. A total of 49 head of Gelbvieh and Balancer® females and bulls were exhibited by 20 juniors from Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Illinois, Mississippi, and Alabama. Lydell Meier, Clinton, Tenn., evaluated the animal show. Jackie Martin judged the showmanship competition.

Grand champion Gelbvieh female was exhibited by Clark Worley, Black Mtn, N.C. BCFG Butlers Jasmine 10X1 is a March 2010 daughter of Butlers Impact 549U. This heifer first claimed the spring yearling division.

Reserve grand champion Gelbvieh female was exhibited by Matthew Davidson, Duncan, S.C. RTRD Darci 264X ET is a January 2010 daughter of Tuned In 55T and was first named champion winter yearling.

Daniel Gaines, Courtland, Miss., had the grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh female. DGMC Hilda’s Stormy 91W is a November 2009 daughter of Prime Cut 406S30.

The reserve grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh female was exhibited by Austin Teeter, Mt. Ulla, N.C., AMT Jenna 27W is a September 2009 daughter of Solution.

Katlynn Sullivan, Robertsdale, Ala., showed the grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh bull. KTLN Samson 216Y is a February 2011 son of Gentleman.

In the Balancer female show, Connor Durham, Piedmont, S.C., exhibited the grand champion Balancer female. Out of the senior female division, VER Kristina 031W ET is an October 2009 daughter of Premonition 662S ET.

Justin Teeter, Mt. Ulla, N.C., exhibited the reserve grand champion Balancer female. GHGF 004 Tess 310W is a November 2009 daughter of S A V 004 Density 4336 and was first the reserve senior female.

Lucas Waters, Maryville, Tenn., took home the grand champion bred and owned Balancer female honors with LWAC Miss Night Vision 2NX, a February 2010 female sired by S A V Mandan 5664.

Grand champion bred and owned Balancer bull went to Justin Teeter, Mt. Ulla, N.C., with GHGF Black Label 06X1 ET, a September 2010 son of Solution.

Reserve grand champion bred and owned Balancer bull was exhibited by Connor Durham, Piedmont, S.C. HSCF Rocko 136X is a January 2010 bull sired by Western Hauler 028S.

Gelbvieh Juniors Compete in Western Regional Show

The summer show season of the American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) began last weekend at the AGJA Cherokee Strip Western Regional show. The show was held May 27-29 at the Noble County Fairgrounds in Perry, Okla., and was hosted by the Oklahoma Gelbvieh Association. A total of 30 head were exhibited by 18 juniors from five states. Blake Bloomberg, Stillwater, Okla., evaluated the Gelbvieh females, Balancer® females and Gelbvieh bulls. Wravenna Bloomberg, also of Stillwater, judged the showmanship contest.

Braxton Oldenburg, Mulhall, Okla., exhibited the grand champion Gelbvieh female. GALG Miss Ellie 11X4 is an April 2010 daughter of Kevlar 18R3. This heifer first won the spring yearling female division.

Exhibiting the reserve grand champion Gelbvieh female was Keegan Darrow, Perkins, Okla., with FMGF Outta Da Blue 713X ET. This January 2010 daughter of Big N’ Rich 911P ET first claimed champion winter yearling female.

The grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh female was exhibited by Brandon Oldenburg, Mulhall, Okla. OLDG Ms Josie 24X6 is a March 2010 daughter of Kevlar 18R3.

Emma McDonald, Rolla, Mo., exhibited the reserve grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh female. EMMA Galaxy Star 2X is a March 2010 daughter of Pop A Top 197T83.

In the Balancer female show, Seth Beying showed the grand champion Balancer female. SDCG Ms Nugget 9405X is December 2010 calf, sired by Western Hauler 028S, who first claimed the senior heifer calf division. This heifer was also the grand champion bred and owned Balancer female for Beying.

The reserve grand champion Balancer female was exhibited by Chandler Ladner, Argonia, Kan. EBY Miss 7294T 9229W is a September 2009 daughter of S A V Bismarck 5682 and was first the champion senior female.

Tricia Goes, Odell, Neb., showed the reserve grand champion bred and owned Balancer female. TPMG Xana’Lady 30X is an April 2010 female sired by R Collateral 2R.

The grand champion Gelbvieh bull went to Jacob Rupp, Perry, Okla., with JERG 5X9, a March 2010 son of Apollo.

Elysia Bushey, Mountain Home, Ark., exhibited the reserve grand champion Gelbvieh bull. ELYB Mr Red Velvet 2X is a March 2010 son of Freedom 178F ET.

Juniors Parade Champions in NWSS Gelbvieh & Balancer® Show

Members of the American Gelbvieh Junior Association paraded 56 Gelbvieh and Balancer® females into the ring for the 2011 National Western Stock Show Gelbvieh Junior Show. Doug Satree, Montague, Texas evaluated the 25 Gelbvieh and 31 Balancer females.

Grand champion Gelbvieh female honors went to Emily Griffiths, Kendallville, Ind. GGGE 3G X-Factor 014X is a January 2010 daughter of GGGE 3G Time Machine 758T ET.

Ariana De La Garza, Centennial, Colo., exhibited the reserve grand champion Gelbvieh female. RID R Loni 901W ET is a February 2009 daughter of JCGR BAR GT Flashback 410M.

The grand champion Balancer female was exhibited by Britney Volek, Highmore, S.D. Born in March 2009, BVLK Martini 905W is sired by LaGrand MAF Antidote.

Emily Griffiths also showed the reserve grand champion Balancer female. GGGE 3G Cowgirl Wisdom 951 is a March 2009 daughter of GGGE 3G Smoke N’ Mirrors.

Gelbvieh Juniors Compete in National Junior Show

Members of the American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) met in Bryan-College Station,
Texas for the annual national Gelbvieh junior show. The Lone Star Classic was held July 5-10 and
was hosted by the Texas Gelbvieh Junior Association.

A total of 160 Gelbvieh and Balancer animals were exhibited by 104 junior members
representing 17 states across the U.S. During the week-long event, the juniors not only competed in
the showring but also participated in educational contests including carcass evaluation, livestock
judging, team fitting, quiz bowl, sales talk, poster design, photography, advertising design, creative
writing and impromptu speaking.

“Participating in a national level show provide an excellent opportunity for young Gelbvieh
breeders to enhance their breeding programs through exposure in competitive shows and contests.
Just as importantly, the networking opportunities provided at these events create lasting
connections not only in the Gelbvieh breed, but within the beef industry as well,” says Dana
Stewart, American Gelbvieh Association director of member services and AGJA advisor.
Clint Rusk, Brookings, S.D., evaluated the national junior Gelbvieh show. AGJA members
exhibited 76 Gelbvieh females and six bred and owned Gelbvieh bulls. Blake Nelson, Warner,
Okla., evaluated the 55 Balancer females, eight bred and owned Balancer bulls and 17 market
steers.

The grand champion Gelbvieh female was a cow-calf pair exhibited by Kolby Perry, Conroe,
Texas. JDPD Rumor Had It 407U is a February 6, 2010 daughter of RTRM Headline. The reserve
champion Gelbvieh female was JCGR BAR GT PrettyWoman 532UET, exhibited by Wyatt Taylor,
Kiowa, Colo. She is an August 12, 2008 daughter of RID R Collateral 2R.

Exhibiting the champion bred and owned Gelbvieh female was Britney Volek, Highmore, S.D.
BVLK U121 is a November 10, 2008 daughter of ELK CK Crazy Horse 138P. Emily Griffiths,
Kendallville, Ind., had the reserve champion bred and owned Gelbvieh female with a cow-calf pair.
GGGE 3G Cowgirl Ultrabright 890U is a May 8, 2008 daughter of GGGE 3G Rio Bravo 564R.
The grand champion Gelbvieh bull was exhibited by Collin Berkley, Osborne, Kan. COLB MR
Xavier X812 is a 2/18/10 son of OZZ EXT Govenor 3N. The reserve champion Gelbvieh bull was
BVLK Tator 906W, exhibited by Britney Volek, Highmore, S.D. He is a March 16, 2009 son of BABR
Who Hott 552R.

In the Balancer show, the grand champion Balancer female was also a cow-calf pair exhibited
by Tricia Goes, Odell, Neb. PMG Uma 802U ET is a 1/16/08 daughter of C A Future Direction 532.
The reserve champion Balancer female and champion bred and owned Balancer female was
exhibited by Emily Griffiths, Kendallville, Ind. GGGE 3G X-Factor 014X is a January 6, 2010
daughter of GGGE 3G Time Machine 758T ET.

Britney Volek, Highmore, S.D. exhibited the reserve champion bred and owned Balancer
female. BVLK Martini 905W is a March 22, 2009 daughter of LaGrand MAF Antidote 577.
The grand champion Balancer bull was exhibited by Emily Griffiths, Kendallville, Ind. GGGE 3G
Warlock 928W is a 2/7/09 son of GGGE 3G Smoke N’ Mirrors. Justin Teeter, Mt. Ulla, N.C. had the
reserve champion Balancer bull with GHGF Gin 98W, a February 11, 2009 son of B C Matrix 4132.
In the Gelbvieh market steer show, grand champion market steer was exhibited by Tanner
Taubenheim, Amherst, Neb. Reserve champion market steer was exhibited by Grace Hammer,
Wallace, Kan.

Competing in a national showmanship competition is one of the highlights of a Gelbvieh junior’s
year. The champion junior showperson was Courtney Larson, Argonia, Kan. The reserve junior
honors went to Morgan Winchester, Jasper, Mo. In the intermediate division, champion went to
Chandler Ladner, Agronia, Kan., and reserve was Tanner Aherin, Phillipsburg, Kan. The champion
senior showperson was Tahanee Embry, Priddy, Texas. The reserve senior showperson honors
went to Britney Volek, Highmore, S.D.

Throughout the week of the Gelbvieh Junior Classic, junior members earn points for the All-
Around competition by competing in the educational contests. The top All-Around winner for the
2010 Lone Star Classic was Grace Vehige, Bonnots Mill, Mo. The runner-ups in the All-Around
competition are as follows: 2nd Grady Hammer, Wallace, Kan.; 3rd Grace Hammer, Wallace, Kan.;
4th Justin Vehige, Bonnots Mills, Mo.; 5th Sydney Wilkinson, Model, Colo.; 6th Chisum Grund,
Sharon Springs, Kan.; 7th Sydney Bigger, Media, Ill.; 8th Morgan Winchester, Jasper, Mo.; 9th
Courtney Spencer, Aurora, Mo.; and 10th Kolby Perry, Conroe, Texas.

The Rookie of the Year honors the first-time Junior Classic participant that earns the most
points in competition. The 2010 AGJA Lone Star Classic Rookie of the Year was Connor Durham,
Piedmont, S.C.
